Made in Chelsea star hides in vault during armed robbery at London jewellers

The only watch left in the Marylebone jewellers after the smash-and-grab raid was the 1991 Rolex Daytona Spencer Matthews was in there to pick up.

Spencer Matthews, who rose to fame on reality TV programme Made in Chelsea, had to hide in a vault yesterday during an armed robbery at a London jewellers.

According to his Instagram, Matthew was at the Hour House in Duke Street, Marylebone, when armed robbers broke in at around 10.30am.

After the moped-riding gang carried out a smash-and-grab and Matthews had got out unhurt, he took to Instagram to tell his followers what had happened.

He said: “I was there picking up this vintage piece that I’d been waiting for, for ages, and these guys drive a scooter through the glass and start battering the shop with big huge hammers.

“We’re in the back of the shop looking at them, sprint downstairs, hide in the vault until all the noise passes.”

He continued: “Come upstairs, the place is just battered and I mean gonzo all the watches have gone, everything.”

Matthews went on to describe how despite everything being taken, the 1991 Rolex Daytona he had been waiting for and was in there to take home, was the only one left in and among the debris left by the thieves.

According to a report from the BBC, when speaking to reporters outside the shop, Matthews said it was owned by a friend and had been broken into “several times” before.

The report went on to detail how the police said it was too early to say if there was any connection to an armed raid on a jewellers shop in Maida Vale last week.
