LVMH switches production to making hand sanitiser

Perfume maisons will be put to work producing antiseptic gels for public hospitals in France.

Last week LVMH watchmaker TAG Heuer gathered a crowd of hundreds together in New York to launch its latest Connected smartwatch.

Today, the group announced that it will start making hand sanitizer for hospitals in France that are struggling with supplies as the coronavirus outbreak escalates.

How the world has changed in a week.

France’s biggest luxury group, which makes perfumes under the Christian Dior, Parfums Givenchy and Guerlain brands, says it will switch production from fragrances to disinfectant gel from today.

“These gels will be delivered free of charge to the health authorities,” LVMH said in a statement, in particular the 39 public hospitals in Paris.

“LVMH will continue to honour this commitment for as long as necessary, in connection with the French health authorities,” the group added.

Italian jewelry brand Bulgari announced last week that it is donating money to an Italian research hospital to help find a vaccine to combat coronavirus.
