Louis Vuitton hires artistic director to oversee watch labels

The former design director of Tiffany & Co has been appointed as the artistic director of watches and jewellery at Louis Vuitton, it has been reported.

Francesca Amfiteatrof will be tasked with overseeing all designs of the label’s watches, as well as creating new jewellery collections.

Tokyo-born Amfiteatrof is a London Central Saint Martins graduate who became the first woman to head the jewellery design team at Tiffany five years ago. She left the brand at the beginning of last year.

“It is with great excitement that I join Louis Vuitton, a house I feel deeply connected to through its values of craftsmanship and travel,” said Amfitheatrof in a statement.

Reports from the fashion press said that Louis Vuitton had hired someone renowned for her “streamlined aesthetic, creativity and her work with precious metals”.

First quarter results published last week revealed that global watch and jewellery sales rose by 20% to €959 million for LVMH maisons on a constant currency and like-for-like store basis.

The strength of the euro and other adjustments reduced the reported growth to 9% for the quarter from brands including TAG Heuer, Hublot, Bulgari, Chaumet and Zenith.
