Longines has once again proved that can produce watches inspired by its long collection of historic models in a way few other manufacturers can touch.
The Swiss, Swatch Group owned brand released two Heritage wristwatches as well as a recreation of a historic pocket watch, all inspired by models from the early 20th Century, at Basel this year. Now comes the turn of the 1970s with the Longines Heritage Diver.
Available in three hand and chronograph versions, the Heritage Diver watches are reissues of two models designed for divers by Longines in the 70s. Both watches feature a cushion-shaped 43mm steel case, the same diameter as the origin models, with brushed sunburst finish on the upper surfaces and polished sides. A black, satin-finish dial with red highlights also features Super-LumiNova details while both watches are secured with a black synthetic or rubber strap.
Both versions feature a bi-directional inner bezel and caseback, crown and bezel are screwed down to ensure water resistance to 300 metres.
The two models have subtle but vitally important differences.
The three-hand version features a red minute hand and minute zones and a 0-60 scale on the rotating bezel, allowing for calculation of how long the diver has been underwater by synchronising the bezel’s zero position with the minute hand.
The chronograph features the scale in reverse, namely 60-0, allowing for calculation of remaining time.
The Longines Heritage Diver watches will retail for £1,440 (three-hand) and £2,200 (chronograph).
