Linde Werdelin has worked with Black Badger to create a brand new alloy for a watch case and dial that glows in three shades of blue in the dark.
Alloy Linde Werdelin (ALW) is said to resemble the way a blue sea, viewed from a boat, gets darker as you travel into deeper water.
The dramatic night time look fades to a cool grey in daylight.
The alloy is a version of Black Badger’s Badgerite, but optimised for Linde Werdelin’s limited Oktopus Blue Sea diver’s watch.
“What I call Badgerite is a material I use extensively in my work. The Oktopus Blue Sea makes use of new innovations in lume application as well. Some areas are surface coated, some are liquid-infilled engravings, and some are even using the Lumicast method, where components are literally cast in solid SLN glow material,” says James Thompon, founder of Swedish design and materials specialist Black Badger.
As well as visually interesting, ALW is also twice as hard as steel but half the weight of titanium.
It is used in an 88-piece limited edition Oktopus Blue Sea, which uses a Double Date Dubois-Depraz movement .
They are on sale now for £12,000.
