Kicking off 2022’s winter auction season, Monaco Legend Group’s (MLG) 22 and 23 October ‘Exclusive Timepieces’ sale takes place this weekend at Le Meridien Beach Plaza in Monte Carlo.
A highlight on the auctions calendar since 2019, MLG focuses on rare and collectible timepieces and the sale will include more than 270 lots with a high proportion of Rolexes, as well as a Tiffany-signed Patek World Time.
Founded in 2015 by entrepreneur Claude Cohen, MLG recruited vintage watch specialist Davide Parmegiani four years later and today, the house holds two annual watch auctions a year.
Talking about the weekend’s auction, Mr Parmegiani says: “We have some exceptional watches in this sale and we have managed to create something extra special thanks to two very important factors – rarity and quality. When these two things combine the market will react and I am sure we will see some great results!”
Among the highlights in this weekend’s sale are several Rolex Cosmograph Daytonas. Among the most coveted watch models in the world, MLG has curated a selection including a “John Player Special” Paul Newman Daytona ref. 6264 in yellow gold (Lot 230, estimate €1–2m) and a 1973 ref. 6265 ‘three lines non-chronometer’ with Tiffany & Co. signed dial (Lot 271, estimate €450,000–900,000).
Rolex Day-Date models are also well represented including the Stella dials with a green face, yellow-gold, diamond-set ref. 1804 “Octopussy” (Lot 244, estimate €125,000–250,000) and a ref. 1802 with turquoise lacquered dial (Lot 188, estimate €40,000–80,000).
Beyond Rolex, there will be a set of four Patek Philippe Calatravas in white gold with floral cloisonné dials (Lot 58, estimate €200,000-400,000) and a stunning 1970s Patek set of white-gold, onyx, coral and diamond-set signet ring, cufflinks and watch (Lot 43, estimate €15,000–30,000).
Also, as watch world continues to celebrate 50 years of the Royal Oak, MLG presents the more whimsical side of its designer Gérald Genta with a case containing 15 mother-of-pearl and enamel dials depicting the famous Disney characters that he featured in his later watches (Lot 1, estimate €5,000–10,000).
