Glasgow-based watch brand Kennett is making a play for the US retail market in its first steps towards wider international expansion.
Kennett has secured funding and support from the Scottish Development International and Business Growth Fund and has now signed to exhibit at the JCK Las Vegas watch and jewellery trade show in May.
The brand’s founder Tom Kennett said that he will be looking to make connections with local distribution partners at the exhibition as well as meeting with US retailers.
Kennett will also use JCK Las Vegas as the launch pad for the brand’s first Swiss-made watch.
Kennett said: “There is strong appetite abroad for British brands, with events like the Olympics last year only enhancing that iconic British imagery worldwide. We visited the USA at the start of this year to meet with potential partners and the response was very favourable.
"Having lived and worked in the States for over two years myself, I have a good understanding of the dynamics and opportunities ahead for the brand in launching across America and we are confident that America will become one of our biggest export markets. We are particularly excited to reveal our new product ranges. We have been working very hard on product development these last 18 months.“
Kennett added that the brand’s play for the US market is just the first step in a wider international expansion programme. The watch brand is currently cultivating routes into other markets including Russia, Germany and Australia.
