Junghans slides into steel sports watch space as Nordic World Ski Championships timekeeper

Junghans is using next month’s FIS Nordic World Ski Championships, which take place in the watchmaker’s home country of Germany, to launch a limited edition dual time steel sports watch known as the 1972 Automatic Edition.

As the official timing partner of the winter sports extravaganza, Junghans is linking the new watch to the event.

The watch is designed to be rugged and sporty, with screw-in crowns and a striking crown protection shape giving it an athletic silhouette.

Its J830 movement, a modified 9S51 from Grand Seiko, is protected by a 3-point shock absorbing system inside the 46.9mm case (width includes crown guard).

On the matt white dial, a second time zone is displayed on a rotatable inner ring in red and blue, the colors of the Championships.

It comes on a steel bracelet, which can be replaced with perforated leather straps in white with red and blue highlights, or dark blue with ice grey highlights.

They go on sale in February for £1,575.
