Jose Mourinho shares secret behind watch haul

Jose Mourinho, who was last year unveiled as the ambassador of Hublot, is building up quite a watch
collection thanks to all the trophies he has won.

Mourinho revealed in a press conference this week that if he wins a trophy, the first thing he does at the end of every season is to retire his watch and never wear it again. The Chelsea manager has so far won 21 trophies in the game.

“I have a big collection! I keep it. They [the watches] are in a safe box,” he said. “Instead of medals or this or that I keep a watch. It’s one thing which I keep safe. Like people keep medals or shirts I keep my watches. Another thing is that if I don’t win the watch becomes a normal watch. But when I finish a season with a trophy, that season is represented with a watch.”

Mourinho said that if he completes a season without winning a trophy then he starts the next season with the same watch.

He also shed light on his favourite watch. “It is the last one because I made it, I designed it and the company did it for me according to my needs. To my needs to be on the bench – according to the colour I want, the material I want, the size and the weight. I designed it with the company. It’s my watch.”

Mourinho toured Hublot’s factory in Nyon, Switzerland when he was announced as the brand ambassador in February 2014. Asked at this week’s press conference whether he had a favourite brand, he said: “In this moment I have a deal by a sponsor. Previously no.”

Mourinho promotes the ‘King Power’ collection for Hublot. On its website, he says: “First, I am a family man and then a football manager, but somewhere on the list of my many passions – I am a watch fanatic! I am honoured to be part of a brand that upholds such similar values to me.”
