James Gurney has been appointed executive director of SalonQP, a luxury watch exhibition he created then sold to the Telegraph Group.
He remained part of the management team at the Telegraph as a condition of the sale but left last year ahead of SalonQP and its associated magazine title QP being acquired by Hearst.
Mr Gurney says the task now is to reinvigorate the event so that it meets the needs of a fast-changing watch industry and its customers.
“We will be showing brands have a valid concept for the show that delivers things that they cannot do themselves,” he says.
“We have ideas that never got off the ground at The Telegraph, but Hearst is right behind them,” he adds.
SalonQP returns to London’s Saatchi Gallery November 22 – 24.
