James Bond Rolex to fetch USD70,000 at auction

A Rolex Ref. 5510 Oyster Perpetual Submariner, dubbed the “James Bond” big crown wristwatch is set to lead an auction of watches in New York next month, and is forecasted to sell for upwards of $70,000 (£43,300).

Jim Wolf, director of fine timepieces at Heritage Auctions, where the sale will take place, said: “The 5510 is by far the rarest of the Submariner models.

“This reference was in production for approximately one year only and made in very small numbers. This particular watch is an extremely fine example of this iconic timepiece.”

The auction will include about 400 watches with some items 350 years old. The watch brands for sale will also include Patek Philippe and Audemars Piguet, with one Audemars Quantieme Perpetual Equation of Time watch expected to sell for $40,000 (£24,735).
