IWC tears into paper-based vegan watch straps

IWC is offering its Portugieser and Portofino watches on environmentally friendly straps made from TimeberTex, a low-impact paper-based material that looks and feels like leather.

The company will continue to make straps from responsibly sourced leather, textile and rubber along with metal bracelets.

The use of  TimberTex straps is part of IWC’s stated commitment to managing environmental and social impacts of its business from start to finish, while providing customers with another high-quality and stylish choice.

“Throughout our 153-year history, IWC has led the way in product design, material invention and manufacturing methods. From our formative years, using hydropower provided by the River Rhine, to our early adoption of titanium, ceramics and the creation of Ceratanium, our pursuit of innovation has yielded remarkable advances.

“Naturally, we wanted to apply this same pioneering spirit to finding further high-quality alternatives for our clients who don’t wear animal leather,” says Franziska Gsell, IWC’s chief marketing officer and Sustainability Committee chair.
