IWC Schaffhausen is turning 150 this year and to celebrate this milestone the company has unveiled five limited edition collections from its main families.
There are a total of 28 limited-edition models from the Portugieser, Portofino, Pilot’s Watch and Da Vinci families, plus a re-working of a Pallweber pocket watch, first created in 1884, as a wristwatch.
The Jubilee editions, all come in both royal blue and white varieties.
For example, the Portofino family now has a Hand-Wound Moon Phase in gold, limited to 150 pieces and a stainless steel-cased model with a white or blue lacquered dial, limited to 350 pieces. The Portofino Chronograph and the Portofino Automatic are also available in the anniversary design, both of which are limited to 2,000 pieces.
The Big Pilot’s Watch Annual Calendar Edition “150 Years” is the only model in the collection with an annual calendar. Production is limited to 100 watches. The Pellaton winding of the IWC-manufactured calibre 52850 comes with wear-proof ceramic components and generates a 7-day power reserve in two barrels.
The movement is visible through the sapphire-glass back. The Big Pilot’s Watch Big Date Edition “150 Years” is the first Big Pilot’s Watch from IWC with a date display featuring large numerals beneath the triangular index at “12 o’clock”.
Two limited-edition models are available, each restricted to 100 watches. The company is also releasing its Chronograph with these anniversary styles.
The ladies’ Da Vinci Automatic Edition “150 Years” with small seconds at “6 o’clock” is the first watch to feature the new IWC-manufactured 82200 calibre. IWC is also presenting a Da Vinci Automatic Moon Phase 36 Edition “150 Years” whose case and moving lugs are paved with 206 pure white diamonds amounting to 2.26 carats.
The Portugieser Perpetual Calendar Tourbillon Edition “150 Years” brings a perpetual calendar together with a tourbillon on the dial for the first time ever. IWC is also launching a Portugieser with a perpetual calendar in the design of the Jubilee collection and fitting the Portugieser Chronograph with an IWC-manufactured calibre. An anniversary edition of the Portugieser Hand-Wound is also being launched for fans of hand-wound watches.
The company went on to unveil three limited-edition “IWC Tribute to Pallweber” wristwatches with jumping numerals. The company is incorporating a digital hours and minutes display in a wristwatch for the very first time. IWC started using this form of time display in pocket watches back in 1884.
The IWC Tribute to Pallweber Edition “150 Years”, limited to 50 pieces, is the first pocket watch from IWC with a digital hours and minutes display since the production of the historical Pallweber pocket watch was discontinued in 1890.
