IN PICS: Instrmnt opens design-led store in native Glasgow

Watch and design brand Instrmnt has opened its first store in this week in its native Glasgow.

Situated on Parnie Street’s Trongate – a district of independent stores, galleries and design studios – the store will not only carry the brand’s self-assembly debut watch, the Instrmnt 01, but also the Instrmnt 02, a 2-speed city bike.

The store will also stock a curated collection of products from Ajoto, Alice Made This, Campbell Cole, Folk, Edition Scotland, Hancock and Iona Brown. Additionally, a bi-annual selection of magazines curated in alliance with Invisible Bookshop will be available.

Pete Sunderland, co-founder and director at Instrmnt, said: “We have always seen Instrmnt about more than just building products, instead it is about creating an ethos and a lifestyle. We’ve curated a small selection of products from brands that we feel align well with our own vision, and the scope of those brands and products will grow and evolve organically over time.”

Instrmnt’s watch sales have been a success both in the UK, with an exclusive launch through Dezeen Watch Store in late 2014, and abroad. The brand announced just this week that it had signed Northern Sky as its distributor in Japan which had already found it 15 stockists.

The store is open from 10.30am-6pm Wednesday-Sunday and is furnished with pieces from Vitsoe and Hay, with lighting provided by Folk while a bespoke daybed, designed by Instrmnt and Namon Gaston, acts as a focal-point.

Ross Baynham, co-founder and director at Instrmnt, added: “Creating a physical space for Instrmnt has been a really rewarding process – as a designer, it’s enjoyable to work on a new scale while applying the same values in our approach to interiors and architecture that we do to products.”
