BREAKING: IJL 2021 gets the chop

The decision comes on the back of the announcement that this year’s event was cancelled just a couple of months ago.

Event company Reed Exhibitions has cancelled International Jewellery London (IJL) 2021.

The decision comes on the back of the announcement that this year’s event was cancelled just a couple of months ago, citing Covid-19 as the primary reason.

IJL said in a statement: “Following the cancellation of IJL 2020 on 9th June; we have taken the even more difficult decision to not run IJL in 2021.

Both the UK live events and jewellery industries are in uncertain positions and, whilst we are confident that they will return in due course, a combination of these factors has led us to this decision. We have made this announcement at an early stage to give clarity to all of our partners as they continue to navigate this global pandemic.”

WatchPro learnt of the cancellation of the 2021 event from a close source last week. The source also suggested that it’s unlikely that IJL will ever return, but the official statement from Reed Exhibitions concluded by saying:

“IJL is one of our valued brands and we will continue to stay close to and monitor the industry as the situation becomes clearer over the coming months.”

Although primarily a show for jewellery designers and brands to exhibit their products, IJL was still seen as a platform to communicate directly with retailers by a handful of watch brands.
