Hugh Rice creates its own in house training academy

Hugh Rice is close to completing the creation of the Hugh Rice Academy, which will provide structured training for its staff of 300.

The Hull-based retailer, which operates four Hugh Rice stores and seven Pandora concept outlets, started work on its academy in 2015 as part of a five year business improvement and growth plan.

It draws inspiration from the structured training that the Hugh Rice team already does with watch brands including Omega, Breitling and TAG Heuer, but adds less brand-specific education for people from the back office through to the shop floor.

Courses are currently run in traditional classroom settings, but the aim is to take the entire programme online so that it can be accessed from anywhere.

“The academy will be an online resource by the end of 2017. We aim to have different levels that people can work towards: silver, gold and platinum that we expect each of our colleagues to get to,” explains Paul Rice, managing director for Hugh Rice.
