Hublot previews first watch of January exhibition

Hublot has got the ball rolling early on next year’s calendar of watch designs by releasing pictures of its first model of the New Year.

The Hublot Big Bang Unico Magic Gold will be one of the many watches the LVMH-owned brand reveals in Geneva in January, while the Richemont-focused SIHH exhibition is also in town.
The 45.5mm watch’s bezel is made of Hublot’s Magic Gold, an 18ct gold alloy, that has helped create what the brand describes as ‘probably the most scratch-resistant gold bezel ever produced’. The watch is based around Hublot’s own Unico movement.

The special alloy was first revealed by Hublot three years ago and was developed in conjunction with the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology. With a hardness rating of 1,000 Vickers compared to 400 Vickers for standard 18ct gold, Magic Gold can only be machined with diamond-tipped tools. Magic Gold is created at a special foundry at Hublot’s Nyon manufacture in a process that sees 24ct gold injected under high pressure over a porous ceramic base casting.

Hublot will exhibit its 2015 collection at Hublot Geneva Days to be held in a private lounge of the Grand Hotel Kempinski Geneva from January 19th.
