Hublot CEO congratulates England’s Lionesses

Last night’s Women’s European Championship final between England and Germany, proved that women’s football can compete on its own terms with the men’s game when it comes to excitement and attendance figures.

A record crowd of 87,192 cheered on England’s Lionesses to victory against Germany at Wembley Stadium – the highest number of spectators recorded in either the men’s or women’s tournament.

The total crowd number across the tournament exceeded 574,875, more than twice the previous record set in 2017. And many millions more tuned in to watch the matches on television.

The success of the national team has seen a surge in interest in the women’s game, with a 40 per cent rise in girl’s taking up the sport in the past three years. A major question that arises from this is whether it will translate into increased levels of sponsorship of women’s football – from grassroots levels through to the elite game.

One brand that has been championing the women’s game since 2015, when it partnered with FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada, is Official Partner and the Official Watch of UEFA Women’s EURO 2022, Hublot.

Beyond the women’s game, Hublot serves as Official Timekeeper for a number of clubs and tournaments. Later this year in Qatar, the brand will celebrate its fourth outing as the Official Timekeeper of the men’s FIFA World Cup.

Brand CEO Ricardo Guadalupe issued the following statement today: “Congratulations to UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 champions England! As an Official Partner and Official Watch, we’re so proud to have sponsored the tournament for the first time. Football is a universal sport, the world’s game, open to all. It brings people together in the spirit of competition, fairness and inclusivity, and has a unique power to carry a message of unity to every corner of the world.”
