Hublot Big Bang Bitcoin sells-out before launch

It can only be bought using Bitcoin, but every one of the 220-piece limited edition sold within days.

A limited edition Hublot Big Bang that can only be paid for in Bitcoins has sold out before officially going on sale.

A teaser campaign in China, which did not even show a proper image of the 210-piece limited edition watch, went online on September 19.

People were asked to provide identification details and a credit card deposit, but the pre-sale had to be closed to new customers within a week, according to Ricardo Guadalupe, Hublot’s CEO.

Hublot says the watch, priced in Bitcoins at the equivalent of CHF 22,900, features Big Bang’s signature industrial design as well as aesthetics inspired from cryptocurrency.

The production run was pegged at 210 to mark the 10th anniversary of Bitcoin and the fact that there will only ever be 21 million units of the cryptocurrency in circulation.

Sales of the watch will be handled by digital asset broker OSL, which effectively becomes a pop up dealer for Hublot and helped promote it to its legions of Bitcoin evangelists.
