Hublot and Depeche Mode create fundraising watches

Hublot has teamed up with Depeche Mode for a charity project to bring safe drinking water to developing countries.

The watch brand and the band held a press conference in Berlin yesterday to launch the project that will generate funds for not-for-profit organisation charity: water.

Hublot has created 250 watches for the project, called the Limited Edition Big Bang Depeche Mode. A portion of the proceeds from the watch line will be donated to the charity, although Hublot has not made it clear how much money this will generate.

Hublot chairman Jean-Claude Biver said: “No water, no life! Water is life and water should be available to everybody. Nobody should suffer from a lack of water. That’s why we try to help to share water. Sharing water means sharing life and sharing love".

The launch of the Limited Edition Big Bang Depeche Mode watch line will be publicised with an international advertising campaign, which will be timed to coincide with Depeche Mode’s 2013 European tour.

Depeche Mode frontman Martin Gore said: "I have personally been a supporter and advocate of charity: water for a while now, so I’m thrilled that we as a band can expand our support for the organisation and help to make significant difference in places around the world struggling without a proper supply of drinking water.”

Scott Harrison, founder and chief executive of charity: water was also at the press conference in Berlin to announce the high-profile partnership.

Harrison said: "charity: water is honoured to build a multi-faceted partnership with Hublot and Depeche Mode over the next year. The support of these two amazing partners will help bring clean, safe drinking water to thousands of people in developing countries while driving awareness about the water issue on a global scale."

This is not the first time that Depeche Mode and Hublot have joined forces. Back in 2010 they worked on a joint project to raise funds for the Teenage Cancer Trust through a benefit show at the Royal Albert Hall in London and an auction of 12 exclusive watches.
