Holzkern watches – as individual and diverse as a fingerprint

This is what happened five years ago in Vienna, when Elias Ferihumer decided to take wooden watches to market.

There are many success stories in the watch industry that start in a garage somewhere, but for Holzkern, lets instead start in the parents’ living room.

This is what happened five years ago in Vienna, when Elias Ferihumer decided to take wooden watches to market.

The Holzkern brand was born. Today the company employs 150 people and sells watches worldwide. But the mission has remained the same and wants to focus on the conscious use of time.

This also includes the conscious use of resources. Wood as a material was therefore no coincidence and with this concept, the Austrian brand reaches all those who focus on mindfulness and deceleration, but above all the younger generation, who often feel overwhelmed by the “countless options” and want to counter the “daily excessive pressure to perform”.

The brand explained: “Part of the reason our products are so popular is that we focus 100 percent on getting better and better to make sure our customers are completely satisfied.

“For example, our timepieces have a specially developed metal core construction made of stainless steel, which makes them very resistant and durable.”

Adding: “In addition, there are many other innovations such as the special resin coating in our ‘Tide’ collection, which seals and protects the walnut wood when showering, swimming and washing hands, emphasises the young Austrian brand.

“Unique, of course. Naturally unique ”, that is the slogan of Holzkern, under which, in addition to hardwoods from all over the world, stone and mother-of-pearl are also used as materials.

“They all stand for individuality and diversity, because every tree, every stone and every mother-of-pearl has a unique grain, marbling, pattern and feel. Inside, quartz and automatic movements from Miyota ensure precision,” says those behind the business.

“Just like our fingerprints, every piece of wood and stone is unique, no Holzkern product is the same as another.”

Not only are the more than 800 models produced in small series, but also all company processes.

The aim is, on the one hand, to be able to offer fair prices and, on the other hand, to work in the most resource-conserving and sustainable way possible.

For the latter, Holzkern invests one euro for every watch sold in reforestation projects, the development of sustainable packaging, employment of people with physical or mental disabilities and other projects for a future worth living in.
