Gucci tiger dive watches

Gucci’s fearless 2017 watch collection hits stores

Gucci’s 2017 watch collection was one of the most talked about at Baselworld. Traditionalists winced while fashionistas purred at the bravery of the designs, which bring the Italian maison’s catwalk icons straight to its wristwear.

Now it is time to see whether the dramatic direction will work, as the watches go on sale at retailers ranging from mainstream jewellery chain Beaverbrooks to fashion-focused MrPorter.com.

The boldest design is the Gucci Dive, which brings Gucci’s tiger motif to a range of timepieces in bold summer colours.

The 40mm divers’ watches come in brushed stainless steel cases with coloured rubber dials featuring the tiger head. The same coloured rubber wraps the side of the case and is used in the straps.

The watches may not challenge traditional divers’ watches, but could make a splash with the surfing community or anybody wanting to look fashion-forward on the beach.

That said, they are waterproof to 200m, and have a unidirectional bezel with a luminous marker to help count down a dive.

The watches, which contain an ETA quartz movement, retail for £780.
