Good Christmas sales at Hugh Rice the Jeweller

Hugh Rice the Jeweller said that it is expecting festive sales this year to be "good".

Group managing director Mike Rice told WatchPro that trading has been "10% above target up to now", suggesting that this was a good omen for final trading figures, for which watch sales are "vital".

Hugh Rice the Jeweller has invested in an upgrade of its website in time for the busy Christmas shopping period and said that it has made good use of the database that the site has created.

Rice said that he had noted increased price sensitivity in customers due to internet shopping but added that this "can be counteracted by reassuring clients of the authentic provenance of your products".

Watches in all categories are selling well this Christmas, according to Rice. He added: "Fashion is usually stronger to start, with prestige building towards the end."

This final flourish comes at the end of a strong year for Hugh Rice the Jeweller. "Like for like has been strongly up, reflecting our improved store appearance and location," said Rice.
