Glashütte Original says it has created a bridge to the past with its Senator Chronometer, which draws on the history of the German watchmaking village’s role in producing early marine chronometers in the 19th century that were used to navigate the world.

Its 42mm red gold or white gold case with sapphire crystal front and back houses a manually wound 58-01 movement that is chronometer-certified by the German Calibration Service.

Two dial options are offered: one in silver-grained lacquer with laser-engraved numerals and indexes, the other in varnished blue-grainé with details in white.

Glashütte Original Senator Chronometer Red Gold is priced at £21,900 and the White Gold with blue face model is £23,200.
