Glashütte Original backs Berlinale’s Retrospective

Glashütte Original will continue to support the Berlinale Film Festival this year as sponsor of the famed festival’s Retrospective selection of vintage cinema for the first time.

The German watch manufacturer has sponsored the programme of the Berlinale, the German Capital’s largest cultural event since 2011.
The Retrospective category brings classic international films back to the silver screen as well as giving contemporary cinema a historical context.

Since 2012, Glashütte Original has also offered support to talented young German film directors through the Perspektive Deutsches Kino section of the festival with the ‘Made in Germany – Perspektive Fellowship.

The Retrospective section’s film programme will this year be enhanced by events organised by the Deutsche Kinemathek museum of film and a retrospective entitled Aesthetics of Shadow, curated together with the Museum of Modern Art, that will also be shown in New York in April.

During the February festival, the watch manufacturer also hosts filmmakers and invited guests at the Glashütte Original Lounge on the 24th floor of the Kollhoff Tower that offers spectacular views of Berlin and the red carpet below.

This year the Lounge will be home to an exhibition focusing on ‘unforgettable cinematic couples’ paired with His and Hers watches from the Glashütte Original collection.
