Girard-Perregaux draws light into its Bridges Quasar collection

A sapphire case and bridges make it possible to see deep into the watch’s manufacture tourbillon movement.

It looks like transparent sapphire watches are going to be a hot trend this year, with Chanel adopting the style for a highly limited version of its J12 and now Girard-Perregaux going the same way for an equally exclusive addition to its Bridges Quasar collection.

Quasar Light is designed to draw the eye deep into the GP09400-1128 self-winding manufacture movement with tourbillon, hours, minutes and small seconds on the tourbillon.

It is being made in a limited run of just 18 pieces.

Skeletonized, white gold dauphine-style hands are also designed to give uninterrupted views into the 46mm watch with its sapphire case.

The tourbillon cage is powered by a unidirectional automatic winding system featuring a micro-rotor made of white gold. Visible through the sapphire crystal box, the micro-rotor is engraved with an eagle; a hallmark motif of the Swiss watchmaker.

“The Quasar Light is a brilliantly bold expression of the technical mastery, contemporary design and rich heritage that exemplifies Girard-Perregaux. The 18 exclusive pieces are now luminous stars at the centre of an entirely new galaxy of watchmaking excellence,” the company says.
