Garmin adds solar charging to smartwatch that can steer your super yacht

quatix 6X Solar speaks to myriad Garmin navigation and marine control systems, and monitors health, fitness and social media for you.

As the world’s leading marine electronics manufacturers, Garmin understands the needs and desires of the seafaring public and its smartwatches work seamlessly to enhance their life on the water.

When it comes to advanced smartwatches, battery life is a pressing issue, which is why Garmin has added a transparent solar charging display for its new quatix 6X Solar that keeps the timekeeper running for longer.

The smartwatch has specialized features built in for boating, fishing, cruising and sailing along with activity profiles and performance metrics for paddle boarding, kayaking, canoeing, skiing and golf.

“We’re excited to introduce solar charging into the new quatix 6 series, giving users everything they’ve come to know and love from this sophisticated and connected marine smartwatch series, now with even longer battery life performance,” said Dan Bartel, Garmin vice president of global consumer sales.

“Because of its unique power-replenishing technology, the quatix 6X Solar gives mariners more on-wrist time to enjoy their favorite activities both on the water and on land.”

The quatix 6X Solar has a large 1.4 inch sunlight-readable display designed with a transparent Power Glass solar charging lens that uses the sun’s energy to extend battery life from 21 days in smartwatch mode to 24 days with solar charging.

Battery life can be extended even further using the watch’s power management settings.

For the more professional mariners, the waterproof quatix 6X Solar is compatible with Garmin Chartplotters and other marine electronics for autopilot control, data streaming, SailAssist race assistance, Fusion-Link entertainment control and more.

Thanks to its full marine-centric toolset, the quatix 6X Solar acts as a wearable instrument that, when paired with on-board Garmin electronics, can stream NMEA 2000 boat data to give users access to important sensor information like speed, depth, temperature, wind data.

Like previous quatix 6 models, when paired with an on-board autopilot, it can also be used to control the autopilot to change heading, engage pattern steering, and follow a GPS route.

Landlubbers may not need all of that functionality, but they will appreciate the watch’s health, fitness and connectivity features.

The constantly connected watch receives alerts on their wrist for incoming calls, texts and emails.

Garmin Pay is used for contactless payment and it has enough on-device music storage of up to 2,000 songs.

The quatix 6X Solar measures heart rate and blood oxygen saturation to support advanced sleeping monitoring and acclamation.

Plus, an innovative Body Battery energy monitoring feature lets users see their body’s energy levels at any given moment, which can help with scheduling workouts, rest times and sleep.

It comes with a titanium bracelet or a blue silicone strap and sells for £999.99.
