G-Shock and Bamford Watch Department collaborate on limited edition 5610

Its one-off luxury Swiss watches typically sell for north of £5,000, but the collaboration with G-Shock means customers can buy a Bamford Watch Department limited edition for just £149.

Watch customiser Bamford Watch Department, best known for unique designs of top end watches from TAG Heuer and Zenith, has pivoted towards the mass market by collaborating with G-Shock for the first time.

Unlike all other customisation specialists, BWD only produces watches with brands where it has an official partnership. This gives it access to genuine parts and makes it possible to issue warranties backed by the brands.

Luxury Swiss watches typically sell for north of £5,000, but the collaboration with G-Shock means customers can buy a Bamford Watch Department limited edition for just £149.

The partnership’s first launch is a limited edition G-Shock 5610 in BWD’s favourite Aqua blue. It goes on sale on September 17.

Gshock side

“G-Shock has been on my wish list to work with for some time. I am a huge fan of the brand, and have a treasured collection of their watches,” says BWD founder George Bamford.

“Working with them on a new timepiece that takes it’s inspiration from the original that was launched in 1983 is very special. I am honoured to have the opportunity to be able to add our own inspiration and design input to this true classic. We look forward to building our relationship further through this new partnership.”

Modern day G-Shock 5610s use radio controlled signals to keep them precisely accurate and are constantly charged by the sun.

They come in a slim, shock resistant, resin case that frames the scratch resistant glass lens.

“We are delighted to be working with George and his talented team on this project. It’s a real meeting of minds and has been a great opportunity to take our timeless classic 5600 case and have Bamford give it his signature twist,” says Jennifer Kelly, G-Shock senior brand manager.
