Full set of 50th anniversary TAG Heuer Monaco watches appears at auction

Fellows will sell them at its upcoming Luxury Watch Auction, taking place online and in its Birmingham sale room on Monday 21st March.

2019 was the 50th anniversary of the iconic Tag Heuer Monaco chronograph, a milestone that the brand celebrated with a series of limited editions in five different styles.

For the first time, a full set of the anniversary editions has come to auction.

Fellows will sell them at its upcoming Luxury Watch Auction, taking place online and in its Birmingham sale room on Monday 21st March.

There are a total of 256 collectible watches in the sale. Viewings are taking place this week in London (March 15 and 16) and Birmingham (march 18 and 21).

TAG Heuer’s full set of 50th anniversary Monaco chronographs are stars of the auction, and have a pre-sale estimate of £30,000 to £50,000.

The Tag Heuer Monaco was released in 1969 and turned into an icon when it was worn by Hollywood actor Steve McQueen in 1971 film, Le Mans.

Its iconic square design was revolutionary for the Swiss watch industry, not only for its striking appearance, but also for being reliably water resistant; a technical feat never before achieved with a square watch.

Only 169 of each anniversary Monaco were made, all of which come in steel cases.

They have been consigned to auction by a single private seller.

The watches are all faithful to the original, elegant Tag Heuer Monaco which is sought-after by watch collectors around the globe.”
