Frederique Constant’s Highlife collection offers next-gen icon more than 20 years on

Their unique design first adorned people’s wrists in 1999 and now, the Swiss-based brand is keen to show off how the iconic timepiece is back.

Frederique Constant launched the first models in the Highlife collection over twenty years ago.

Their unique design first adorned people’s wrists in 1999 and now, the Swiss-based brand is keen to show off how the iconic timepiece is back.

First relaunched last year, FRC added three new models: the Highlife Perpetual Calendar Manufacture, Highlife Heart Beat and Highlife Automatic COSC, all of which still feature the system which makes it possible to switch between a steel bracelet, a leather, crococalf suede or rubber strap on a whim.

Two years of development was needed to bring the models back but despite the update, designers were keen to stick to the brand’s core values in being finely crafted, Swiss Made, affordable and engineered for everyday use.

The three models have the same 41 mm case and like the original inspiration, the latest Highlife collection has an integrated bracelet.

The lack of horns allows for greater flexibility and helps the watch sit naturally on the wrist while the integrated design is more complicated to conceive than any strap with horns.

The process required perfect continuity between the lines of the case and the links, a smooth, regular but gradual transition to the clasp and natural fluidity which the designers say should be almost imperceptible.
