Fellows flies high with monthly auction programme

The decision by auction house Fellows to triple the number of watch sales it holds each year has got off to a flying start.

Fellows previously held specialist vintage watch sales four times a year, but this week held the first of what will now be monthly auctions under a new brand: The Watch Sale.

The first event, held yesterday (April 20) managed to close sales on 93% of the watches on offer.

“Taking place monthly, this move by Fellows cements its position as a major force in the UK watch market; boasting remarkable sale rates alongside holding more specialists watch sales than any other auctioneer,” said Fellows managing director Stephen Whittaker.

“The first of our Watch Sales launched with an excellent Hammer total of just under £380,000 significantly above the estimate for the auction. This proves that with clear cataloguing, sensible estimates, detailed descriptions and high quality images each monthly Watch Sale is on track to be a huge success,” he added.

With the next Watch Sale only a month away on May 26, Fellows says it is offering a constantly changing inventory at a wide range of price points, both for contemporary commercial pieces or vintage rarities.

“Couple this with the drama and excitement that only comes with a packed auction room at Fellows, this shopping experience is truly like no other,” the company says.

Jewellers and specialist watch retailers are a key audience for Fellows both on the buying and selling side.

For the vendor, many of which are retailers who have taken watches in part exchange for other sales, there are now monthly to buy and sell, and Fellows promises that its customer service is unrivalled in terms turnaround times between consignment and payment.
