Eberhard & Co has created a super-strength steel watch case through a process that is so complicated that the production has had to be limited.
The tough watch case features in the Chrono 4 Géant Full Injection men’s watch, which will officially launch later this month at BaselWorld.
The strengthening process works by putting the steel case through a low-temperature carbon diffusion process that hardens it by allowing carbon atoms to penetrate the surface.
The manufacture of the cases is said to be so complicated that only 500 of the Chrono 4 Géant Full Injection watches will ever be made.
The hardened 48mm case has been given a dark look with black DLC coating and has been set against matching DLC steel strap buckle and black rubber strap. It has a Côtes de Genève engraving on the caseback.
