Du Maurier to give away last sold out Maxim Black

Du Maurier is set to give away the final example of its new limited edition Maxim Black watch.

The recently released model has already sold out and the Facebook-based competition is the only way to own one of the first edition releases.

The English watch company, founded by author Daphne du Maurier’s grandson Ned and his wife Marianna, will give away a Maxim Black watch worth £445 through a competition on the brand’s Facebook page.

Just 50 first edition examples of the black and silver Maxim Black, named after the ‘stylish, sophisticated and classic’ character from du Maurier’s novel Rebecca, will ever be produced.

Ned du Maurier Browning, co-founder and head designer, said: “Having just completed the London Watch Show 2014 and the successful launch of the first edition Maxim Black, we felt it would be great opportunity to spread the word and offer one of these exclusive, limited edition watches as a competition prize!”

Ned, who lives in Dorset, completed the designs for the brand’s first two watches on his laptop during lengthy train commutes while working in London.

“The place we have been inspired to begin our story is with her two most luminous and memorable characters from that book, Maxim and Rebecca. The watch [Maxim] had to be clean, classic and understated, not too big or ostentatious.”

The Maxim Black boasts non-reflective sapphire glass, a textured jet black dial and polished silver markers and hands, Swiss Ronda quartz movement as well as a small seconds dial.

Based on the reception of the Maxim Black first edition of 50, a second edition is now planned.

Visit Du Maurier’s Facebook page by August 15 for details of how to enter the Maxim Black competition.
