Detroit-based Shinola opens doors of its newest venture

The watchmaker is in partnership with Bedrock, a major real estate developer, as part of the new concept.

Detroit-based watchmaker, Shinola, has opened the doors on its newest concept, a 129-room hotel.

Named the Shinola Hotel, the building covers 16,000 square feet and offers retail and food and beverage areas for guests.

Located at 1400 Woodward Avenue, the firm started taking reservations from January second, priced from $195 per night.

According to a report from Forbes, the hotel will pair two restored historic buildings, the former T.B Rayl Co department store and a former Singer sewing machine store.

Designed by New York’s Gachot Studios and Kraemer Design Group, the new hotel will be operated by Mac&Lo, with chef Andrew Carmellini of NoHo Hospitality Group in place to oversee the food and beverage outlets.

Room keys, powered by RFID chips, will be complemented by custom leather fobs with an engraving of the room number and the hotel’s street address.

In December, parent company of Shinola, Bedrock manufacturing, secured a multi-million dollar investment from Qatar.
