Delma diving watch

Delma travels 6,000km to test diving watch in one of the coldest lakes on Earth

Swiss brand assembles crack team of divers, filmmakers and photographers for special expedition

Swiss watch brand Delma has gone to new levels to demonstrate just how its new Blue Shark III diving watch is able to withstand the most extreme conditions.

The company and a team of expert divers, filmmakers and photographers travelled 6,000km from its headquarters in Lengnau to Lake Baikal, a place that has average air temperatures of minus 21°C and ice as thick as two meters in the winter.

The lake’s appearance is extraordinary as it has existed for more than 25 million years, while the water temperature is just above freezing at around 3°C underneath the ice.

Deep caves plunge over 50m into the crystal-clear water, purified by unique microorganisms, while above the surface, the frozen landscape is interrupted only by piercing shards of ice and barren peaks.

The Blue Shark collection has been designed for deep sea adventures and is built to perform in the toughest conditions, boasting water resistance to 4,000 meters.

To achieve such a feat, the specifications are very strict: a clearly legible dial, unidirectional rotating bezel that utilizes key indicators for managing dive times, luminescent numbers and indexes for perfect readability in the dark.

It also features an automatic movement with a 38 hour power reserve and a helium valve that gradually releases the trapped gas while preserving the water tightness of the watch as much as the safety of the diver.

The Blue Shark III is limited to 500 pieces per case type.
