Coventry Watch Museum gifted horologist’s tools

Watchmaking tools and equipment owned by horologist from Exhall in Warwickshire have been donated to the Coventry Watch Museum following his death.

The family of horologist Ron Kimberley, who died in April, have now donated tools, equipment and parts from his spare-room workshop to the museum. The items were donated by his niece and nephew who did not want to throw away the collection.

Peter Naul of the Coventry Watch Museum Project told the Coventry Telegraph: “We are absolutely over the moon with the collection of parts, watches and clocks. They will, for the most part, be on show at the museum.

“We would like to thank the family for their donation and they can be assured that their treasured mementos of their late uncle and aunt will be kept and shown, ensuring that future generations can remember that Coventry was once the world leader in watch-making.”

The museum features exhibitions of Coventry-made clocks, watches and tooling, and other information on Coventry’s past as a leading watchmaking city.

Naul explained that it is the museum’s intention to create a workshop that visitors to the museum can see a watch repairer working.
