Corum gifts watches to Jules Verne champs

Corum has gifted the winners of the round the world Jules Verne Trophy sailing race with new timepiece models called Trophée Jules Verne 2011-2012.

The watches were given to the 14 crew members and the on-shore router of the winning vessel the Maxi Banque Populaire V a watch each.

Corum was the official timekeeper of the race, in which boats can neither stop nor receive help.

The winning Maxi Banque Populaire team completed the race in 45 days, 13 hours, 42 minutes, 53 seconds, scooping the Jules Verne Trophy and breaking the record for the race.

The brand presented the crew with its watches on April 2 – a special edition Admiral’s Cup Seafender 48 Chrono Centro, with a specially engraved dial bearing the inscription Trophée Jules Verne 2011-2012. The case back is engraved with an outline of the route and each model has been personalized with the individual crew member’s name.

Loïck Peyron, skipper of the Maxi Banque Populaire V, said: “When tackling time head-on, it is advisable to be well-equipped. We would like to thank Corum for their unfailing support as well as the Banques Populaires for their loyalty. The entire team is immensely proud to wear such a powerful symbol of an incredible adventure on their wrists.”

Corum’s chief executive Antonion Calce said the brand took great pleasure in its association with the race and having the team and brand meet in Switzerland. “The fact that each team member has personally come here to receive his Jules Verne trophy watch, inscribed with his name, is a very strong message. Their presence demonstrates the scope of our partnership and the sense of companionship that Corum develops with its partners.”
