When your flagship store has been shuttered for almost two months, a big ticket sale could not be more welcome.
Weir & Sons, a legendary family jeweller that dominates the luxury watch market in Dublin, Ireland, enjoyed just such a financial boost — and a massive marketing coup — when Mixed Martial Arts star Conor McGregor took delivery of a €90,500 ($100,000) highly exclusive Patek Philippe Annual Calendar Chronograph.
The watch was produced for the 150th anniversary of Weir & Sons in 2019.
It is an Irish green Patek Philippe Annual Calendar Chronograph Special Series Ref. 5905P-014, made in a limited run of of 25 pieces.
The Special Series Ref. 5905P-014 houses a self-winding movement and features a green sunburst dial with gold applied hour markers on shiny green alligator strap while the words Weir & Sons and 150th Anniversary are engraved on the rim of the sapphire-crystal case back.
They were presented to Weir & Sons in May last year by Patek Philippe president Thierry Stern.
MMA star Mr McGregor is a passionate watch collector who often shares news of his latest acquisitions to his 36.5 million followers on Instagram.
“Incredible!” he exclaims on his timeline. “25 of these only made and all specifically for Ireland’s Weir & Sons jewelers. Due to their long standing partnership with Patek, but more so their great year of sales for the brand. In other words … my purchases lol,” he adds.
