Ukraine appeal

Company of Master Jewellers seeds Red Cross Ukraine Crisis Appeal with £5,000 donation

Buying group hopes industry will come together to raise over £20,000 to support victims of the war in Ukraine.

The Company of Master Jewellers (CMJ), a buying group that supports independent jewellers, has launched a fundraising appeal to raise money for The British Red Cross’ Ukraine Crisis Appeal.

The British Red Cross launched its Ukraine Crisis Appeal last week to support the work of the Ukrainian Red Cross, the ICRC and other Red Cross and Red Crescent partners working in border countries.

“We have all been shocked and saddened by the news footage of the war emerging in Ukraine as civilians are killed and innocent families are being torn apart. While our thoughts are with everyone affected by the conflict, we wanted to do something as a group that will really make a difference to those people living through this,” says Michael Aldridge, chairman of the CMJ.

“Our fundraising appeal goes beyond CMJ membership – we hope that the whole jewellery and watch industry will get behind us and support this worthwhile cause. Every single donation will make a difference and go straight to those who need it most.”

Funds raised will provide urgent food and hygiene parcels to people and help evacuate the most vulnerable.

Teams have also provided first aid training to 1,000 people in metro stations and bomb shelters, and are supporting fire fighters, medical and civil protection units.

CMJ has donated the first £5,000 towards a target of £20,000.

Anyone wishing to donate can do so via the CMJ’s JustGiving page at www.justgiving.com/fundraising/cmj-ukraine.
