Christopher Ward Challengers take world title

Christopher Ward’s CW Challengers programme has racked up its latest victory with a sailing duo winning a world championship in Thailand.

Sam Brearey and sailing partner Christian Birrell won the Fireball World Championships in Thailand, after competing in a 10-race world championship in their Christopher Ward-sponsored boat, Makaira, named after the company’s C11 Makaira Pro diver’s model.

In a gruelling five day series they took the title after holding off a powerful late charge from British and Australian crews in second and third and winning with a race to spare.
After a brief rest Brearey will return to his training programme as he seeks a place in the Team GB squad for the 2016 Brazil Olympics.

The CW Challengers programme launched by the British brand last year aims to support people facing financial or resource-based challenges to their ambitions.

Previous successes include the Tajik Silk Road Expedition, a group of five young British mountaineers who undertook an epic journey to Tajikistan last summer. The team climbed a previously unscaled mountain that is now officially registered as Mount Christopher Ward.

As the programme expands a new challenger is set to be announced later this month.
