Christopher Ward appoints new senior designer

Christopher Ward has appointed a new senior designer to oversee the development and design direction of all new product from the British brand.

Swiss-born Adrian Buchmann becomes the company’s senior designer and will work at the company’s HQ in Maidenhead whilst working closely with Christopher Ward’s atelier in Biel.

The 27-year-old has been designing watches for eight years, first with a Swiss specialist design agency before gaining further experience as a partner in a start-up venture focused on developing specialist movement complications. Buchmann also has experience of web design as well as marketing and communications.

“It’s very exciting to join Christopher Ward, a brand with a unique and adventurous spirit," said Buchmann. "My first encounter with Christopher Ward was seeing the C900 Worldtimer in an inflight magazine, and I was impressed that a British company would spend time and energy to develop such an interesting new movement. Like the customers, I’ve been seduced not only by the quality of Christopher Ward’s watches but also by the authenticity of the brand’s philosophy, especially in its emphasis on customer service. Also, the brand’s design approach particularly appeals to me through its strong commitment to create clever watches that express a clearly British style.”

Buchmann describes his ambition as developing this ‘British signature’ and making the most of last year’s merger between Christopher Ward and Synergies Horlogères by working closely with Swiss colleagues Jorg Badrer and Johannes Jahnke.

Mike France, co-founder of Christopher Ward, commented: “I’m absolutely delighted that Adrian has joined us and he brings not only a highly creative eye for design but also further consolidates the Anglo-Swiss axis that drives a complementary range of qualities, skills and vision. I was immediately impressed by the fact that he instantly understood our signature British design ethos and shares our passion for engineering quality, heritage and authenticity. I’m immensely proud of the strong design platform that myself and the design team have evolved over the past decade and I’m confident that Adrian can help drive that ethos to new levels and into exciting new developments.”
