Christie’s offers rare Patek Philippe pocket watches at New York sale

Christie’s New York will hold its Important Watches auction on Tuesday, December 6, with UK buyers invited to bid for more than 250 historic and modern classic timepieces.

The sale will include modern, vintage and sport watches from Audemars Piguet, Cartier, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Vacheron Constantin, Omega, Patek Philippe and Rolex.

Christie’s will also present what it describes as one of the most important collections of pocket watches offered in recent years with two unprecedented lots leading the selection.

A Patek Philippe 18k Gold Hunter Case Minute Repeating Perpetual Calendar Split-Second Pocket Watch, commissioned in 1904 an American enthusiast has an estimate of $400-800,000.

A Patek Philippe Pope Pius IX Jubilee pocket-watch, gifted by the  Swiss branch of the Catholic organization Piuseverin in 1877 to Pope Pius IX, the longest reigning Pope in history, has an estimated of $50-100,000.

John Reardon, Christie’s international head of watches says: “To celebrate Christie’s 250th anniversary I can think of no better way than ending the year presenting just over 250 timepieces that define Christie’s dedication to finding fresh to market exciting horological discoveries across all price points. From a few thousand dollars to over a half million dollars, this sale has something for everyone from the experienced collector to the first time buyer discovering the incredible value and excitement of buying at auction. We expect a full salesroom, spirited bidding, and a true celebration of the watch community when we come together in NY for this exhibition and sale.”
