Christie’s fortnight-long online watch auction amasses sales of $2.4 million

The sale concentrated more on volume than on headline-grabbing seven-figure timepieces, but there were some star lots including an 18ct gold Patek Philippe Calatrava, ref 570, owned by Andy Warhol, which sold for $150,000.

Christie’s New York notched up sales of $2,372,125 over a fortnight-long online watches auction that ended this week.

The sale concentrated more on volume than on headline-grabbing seven-figure timepieces, but there were some star lots including an 18ct gold Patek Philippe Calatrava, ref 570, owned by Andy Warhol, which sold for $150,000, over three times its estimate.

The auction attracted bidders from 30 countries.

Another Patek Philippe piece, reference 3990EP in platinum set with diamonds, sold for $200,000 and a reference 5970J in yellow gold achieved $175,000.
