To anybody of a certain vintage, Maurice Ravel’s Boléro will forever be associated with ice dancing champions Torvill & Dean, but luxury Parisian jeweller Chaumet is giving the ballet a fresh interpretation in the form of a watch and jewellery inspired by its slow-tempo Latin music and dance movements.
A 36mm version of the yellow or pink gold watches house Swiss automatic movements while smaller 30mm models use Swiss quartz mechanisms.
They are worn on 1.8mm thick mesh bracelets made of 330 highly polished mesh components, one of the thinnest bracelets created by the maison, that looks like it is made from an almost seamless, supple, band of gold.
“Boléro captures the Maison’s characteristic mastery of lines and movement with a circular bezel, sweeping profile, paired-down dial and a jewellery inspired gold mesh bracelet with a second-skin softness and suppleness. The jewellery delicacy is found in every detail, such as the sculptural crown, the clasp conceived in the manner of a jewel, polished like a mirror to perfectly match the curve of the bracelet,” Chaumet says.
The watches will be available at Harrods, Selfridges and Chaumet’s Bond Street, London, boutique from April.
