Casio recreates its seventies’ iconic F100 for a modern day nerd

0

For decades, Japanese watch manufacturers have seemed almost apologetic about the way they decimated the mechanical watch industry with their 1970s quartz and digital timekeepers.

Not any more.

Now we are seeing a slew of revival watches with the unmistakable retro look of the seventies when every technological leap forward was celebrated as a step towards a brighter future.

A week after introducing a special Pac Man edition of its new A100 digital watch format — a throw back not only to the legendary console game of the time, but also the period’s popular F-100 collection — Casio has followed up with a core range of metallic models.

New this week is the A100WE-1AVT, replete with the four buttons of the F-100 controlling features like date, calendar and stopwatch on the front of the watch, but updated with modern nickel-free metal plating.

They are also water resistant these days.

Three colours have been unveiled today: silver, grey and gold.

They go on sale in September with prices ranging from $55 to $75.
