Cartier sponsors Queen’s Cup polo for second year

By Jessica Knowles

Cartier will be involved in the prestigious Queen’s Cup polo tournament for the second year running.

Cartier has a long association with the sport since launching the Cartier International Day in 1985. In the same year, Cartier polo gained international notoriety with the Cartier World Elephant Polo Championships in Nepal and the Cartier Polo World Cup on Snow, which took place on the frozen waters of Lake St Moritz in Switzerland.

Last year also saw the first ever Cartier polo event in Beijing, following in the footsteps of the Cartier Dubai Polo challenge, first created in 2006.

As with the Cartier Queen’s Cup, Cartier International Day is held at the Guards Polo Club in Windsor Great Park. Prince Charles and Prince Harry have been frequently among the players riding out onto the field, in the presence of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and with more than 25,000 spectators in attendance.

The Cartier Queen’s Cup is one of the world’s leading polo tournaments. HM The Queen first presented her cup in 1960 and has seen HRH Prince Philip play in the final and HRH Prince Charles win the trophy.

Cartier UK executive chairman Arnaud Bamberger said: "We are honoured to uphold our loyalty to the sport of polo with the Cartier Queen’s Cup. It is a much-treasured privilege to have such a standing in the British social calendar and I look forward to enriching further our strong heritage with both the sport and with Guards Polo Club."

The tournament itself began on May 22 and concludes with the final and the traditional lunch in the Cartier enclosure on June 16.
