Bulgari donates money to drive coronavirus vaccine developments

The donation has allowed a hospital to purchase a 3D microscope that will aid the prevention and treatment of the COVID-19.

Luxury watch and jewellery brand Bulgari has donated money to an Italian hospital to help find a vaccine to combat coronavirus.

As Italy has been badly impacted, and at present is in lock-down, the Roman brand has made a major donation to the Research Department of the Lazzaro Spallanzani Hospital in Rome.

There, three researchers – Maria Rosaria Capobianchi, Francesca Colavita and Concetta Castilletti – have managed to successfully isolate the virus in under 48 hours.

Bulgari’s donation has allowed the purchase of a state-of-the-art microscopic image acquisition system, which will be fundamental in the development of an effective vaccination against the virus.

“We are honoured by the donation of Bulgari which will allow us to strengthen research on the developments of COVID-19 in such a delicate moment,” says Marta Branca, general manager of Lazzaro Spallanzani Hospital. “I thank, in particular the CEO, Jean-Christophe Babin, for his commitment and his availability towards the Institute.”

“We are conscious that the donation is a first small drop in the ocean of research which has to be conducted, but thanks to the wonderful people who are working on it day and night with incredible optimism, we are sure that in the weeks to come, we will make giant steps to contain first and then eradicate COVID-19, not only from Italy, but from the rest of the world,” CEO of Bvlgari, Jean-Christophe Babin, remarks.

On March 6, a ribbon-cutting ceremony was held as the Lazzaro Spallanzani Hospital took delivery of the microscope.

The ceremony was attended by Bulgari’s chief executive officer, Jean-Christophe Babin, and executive vice president of sales & retail, Lelio Gavazza.
