Bremont special edition marks epic air race

Bremont last night launched its latest historic special edition honouring the de Havilland DH-88 Comet that captured the world’s imagination when it raced from England to Australia in 1934.

The new Bremont DH-88 will raise funds for the Shuttleworth Collection through the sale of 282 stainless steel and 82 rose gold models.

“The Shuttleworth Trust is a unique museum with over 40 flying aircraft with some of the only flying examples of their type in the world,” explained Bremont co-founder Giles English. “Founded by Dorothy Shuttleworth in 1944 in memory of her son who dies in a flying accident, it was set up as a charity to keep these amazing aircraft flying. Both Nick and I, through our father, have always had close personal connections to the Trust and we are pleased to be supporting it with a percentage of all proceeds from the sales of the DH-88 watches going to the charity.

Piloted by the Smith brothers, the aircraft ‘Grosvenor House’  – which is part of the Shuttleworth Trust  collection – made the journey in just over a week as part of the MacRobertson Air Race.

The GMT chronograph sports a BE-54AE and incorporates original spruce plywood from the undercarriage assembly of this  winning aircraft.
