Bremont joins LINLEY celebration of British design

On the evening of 26th February, the LINLEY Flagship showroom on Pimlico Road threw open its doors for the VIP launch of the exhibition curated by David Linley and Scott Simpson in a celebration of British design, craftsmanship, engineering and innovation.

Visible from either end of Pimlico Road, expertly engineered JCB diggers framed the doorway; just a taster of what lay within. Nineteen carefully selected British brands were brought together under one roof to form the exhibition, demonstrating the vast array of skills and expertise our country possesses. A McLaren 12C Spider filled one window at the front of the shop encouraging eager passers-by to stop and look through the window in awe at the sheer elegance of it. Complementing this feat of engineering in the other main window was a Gladstone motorcycle which was admired by many guests including Elizabeth Hurley and Stephen Bayley.

Among the 300 guests who attended were Princess Alexandra of Kent, Sue Crewe, Nick Foulkes, Julia Carrick, Eric and Hannah Heerema and Gerry McGovern. Guests were encouraged to interact with the artisans from various disciplines to gain a better understanding of the expertise used to create the exquisite objects that filled the showroom.

From Lobb shoe making to LINLEY marquetry, Barnard & Westwood notebook embossing to BVS Bespoke handbag stitching, the abundance of skills present entertained the guests as they listened to the representatives of each brand who shared fascinating stories about their respective brands. Delving into their archives, Bamford Watch Department displayed a LINLEY made Watch box, CW Dixey had thank you letters from Winston Churchill on display and Bremont Watches exhibited an ejector seat, used to test the endurance of one of their watches.

Absolute Taste conjured up a magnificent menu of canapés inspired by British food traditions including mini fish and chips in Union Jack cones, Yorkshire reared Dexter beef and Yorkshire puddings, and English garden inspired ice cream balls covered with white, dark and milk chocolate. In keeping with the theme of the event, the Absolute Taste team sought out the very best British suppliers to support and celebrate this important industry. Delicious canapés were washed down by the finest English Sparkling Wine, kindly provided by Nyetimber who sponsored the event and provided a fantastic wine tasting experience for guests.

The event launched the exhibition which is open to the public from 27th February – 14th March at 60 Pimlico Road, London, SW1W 8LP.
