Breitling celebrates 20 years since first around the world balloon flight with Cockpit B50 Orbiter

20 years on from when Breitling sponsored the journey, the brand has released the SuperQuartz timepiece.

Breitling has unveiled a limited edition Cockpit B50 Orbiter in celebration of the first non-stop balloon flight around the world.

20 years on from when Breitling sponsored the journey, the brand has released the SuperQuartz timepiece.

Commenting on the news, Breitling CEO Georges Kern described how he is proud of his brand’s link to the mission and with Bertrand Piccard, a member of the Breitling Explorers Squad.

He said: “Bertrand is an explorer of the first rank, and he is also one of the world’s true visionaries. He always dares to dream big, and, with every challenge he undertakes, there is always a level of humanity.

He added: He inspires all of us and constantly strives to make the planet a better place. We knew that we had to create a very special watch to honor him and the twentieth anniversary of the Breitling Orbiter 3.”

The watch is limited to 213 pieces, a number chosen to commemorate the date the Breitling Orbiter 3 landed in Egypt and is presented on an orange rubber strap with a folding clasp.

It has an orange dial and the numerals, indexes, and hands are coated with luminescent Super-LumiNova.

The watch is powered by the Breitling Manufacture Caliber B50, a thermocompensated SuperQuartz analog and digital display movement designed in-house.

In addition to the chronograph with split-time and flyback capabilities, the watch has a second timezone display, a perpetual calendar, two alarms with buzzer and/or vibrate mode, a lap timer function and a countdown complete.
